JACKSON

Franco-British conductor David Jackson is based in France and has built a career spanning opera, symphonic repertoire, choral music and contemporary creation. As Chorus Master of the Opéra de Tours, he develops projects that explore new forms of concert performance and choral practice, while continuing his work as a conductor in major repertoire.

Creation and the reinvention of musical forms play an important role in his artistic work. He conducted the French premiere of "Winterreise" in Gregor Meyer’s arrangement for choir, as well as the premiere of "Du musst dein Leben ändern" by Béatrice Berrut, commissioned by the Opéra de Tours for choir and symphony orchestra. Also active as an arranger and orchestrator, he created a new version of Wagner’s "Wesendonck Lieder" for soloist, choir and two pianos.

In Tours, he conceived "Chœur en Fête", which has become one of the highlights of the Opéra’s season. Designed to bring together all audiences through an original musical and theatrical experience, the project reflects an artistic approach that places repertoires in dialogue and unites audiences from diverse backgrounds. He also plays a central role in the creation and development of the Chorale Populaire and the Maîtrise Populaire of the Opéra de Tours.

In 2024, he took on the artistic direction of the Festival Lyrique en Mer on Belle-Île-en-Mer. Under his leadership, the 2025 season achieved particular visibility: marked by a new production of La Traviata and the development of new international partnerships, it attracted a record number of spectators.

A graduate of Durham University and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, David Jackson has been assistant to Lionel Sow with the Chorus of the Orchestre de Paris, chef de choeur of the Children’s Chorus of the Opéra national de Paris, and vocal coach of the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris.
